Kravis Is Open To Entertain
I’m sure many of you have seen the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on the corner of Okeechobee Boulevard and Tamarind Avenue in West Palm Beach. But for those few who haven’t seen Kravis Center, then you need to plan a visit soon. Kravis is now open after all of the pandemic months and ready to entertain the county. Get out of your house and get a little Arts & Culture in your life. Here is a very brief history of Kravis Center and its namesake Raymond F. Kravis. Raymond F. Kravis was a prominent geologist and philanthropist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who wintered in Palm Beach for more than 35 years. In 1985, a consortium of his friends donated more than $7 million to name the facility for Mr. Kravis. In September 1992, the Kravis Center doors opened to an anxiously awaiting community. The Center’s dedication week hosted tens of thousands of patrons for a full week of free performances featuring local arts groups. In 2020, a major renovation took place that expanded the lobby, added a new outdoor urban plaza, placed new covered drop-off points, reconfigured the walkways with colorful water features and updated the parking garage. Kravis has three venues to accommodate whatever show is appearing; the 2195-seat Alexander W. Dreyfoos, Jr. Concert Hall, the 289-seat flexible Rinker Playhouse and the 170-seat Helen K. Persson Hall. The Kravis Center is South Florida’s premier performing arts center offering a various line-up of classical, pop and rock music, dance, comedy and top-touring Broadway shows. Speaking of Broadway productions, Kravis has the following line-up coming this season: Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Summer-The Donna Summer Musical, CATS, Anastasia, My Fair Lady, and An Officer and A Gentleman.
